Parliament Question: Shortage of AYUSH Doctors and Pharmacists

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF AYUSH LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 5648 TO BE ANSWERED ON 27.03.2026 Shortage of AYUSH Doctors and Pharmacists 5648. Shri Ummeda Ram Beniwal: Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state: (a) whether there is an acute shortage of trained AYUSH doctors and pharmacists across the country, if so, the details thereof; (b) the number of vacant positions in Government hospitals and health centres; (c) whether the Government has delayed recruitment under the National AYUSH Mission; and (d) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYUSH (SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV) (a) to (d) Public Health being a State subject, the primary responsibility to assess the number of vacant positions in Ayush facilities including Government hospitals & health centres to analyze status of availability of trained man-power including Ayush doctors and pharmacists across the country and conduct timely recruitment under the National Ayush Mission (NAM), lies with the respective State/UT Government. However, under NAM, the components for setting up of up to 10/30/50 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospitals, upgradation of exclusive standalone Ayush Hospitals, operationalization of Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) and Ayush Public Health Programmes inter-alia are having provision for deployment of man- power for various posts. Accordingly, State/UT Governments may avail the financial assistance by submitting suitable proposals through State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) as per the provisions of the NAM guideline. ***** 1
