Parliament Question: Status of Agri-based Trades in ITIs of Uttar Pradesh

DIMPLE YADAV Will the Minister of SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP be pleased to state? (a) the details of availability of trades and actual enrolment figures related to food processing, cold-chain management and agro-logistics in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in Mainpuri district; (b) the number of such trades that are non-functional due to vacant post of instructors or the lack of adequate faculties; (c) the details of the placement record of youth trained in the said specialized fields within the agri-based processing industries; (d) whether the Government has formulated a time-bound strategy to bridge the gap between local agricultural production and industrial requirements through targeted skill development initiatives; and (e) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) IN THE MINISTRY OF SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a) The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), implements the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) through a network of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for skilling youth. Under CTS, training is imparted in 169 courses through 14,688 ITIs (3,345 Government and 11,343 Private) across the country. In the State of Uttar Pradesh, there are 3,304 ITIs, comprising 294 Government and 3,010 Private ITIs. Out of these, Mainpuri district has 21 ITIs, including 04 Government and 17 Private ITIs. In the areas related to food processing, cold-chain management and agro-logistics, Training is offered in 13 trades under CTS in ITIs across the country. The list of these 13 trades is available at Annexure-1. In the session 2025–26, out of these 13 trades, training in three trades Food Beverage, Food Production (General), and Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Technician is offered in ITIs in the State of Uttar Pradesh with a total enrolment of 6,015 trainees. In Mainpuri district, in these sectors, training in Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Technician trade is offered in ITIs, with an enrolment of 120 trainees. (b) The engagement of Instructors in Government ITIs falls under the jurisdiction of the respective State Governments and Union Territory Administrations. (c) to (e) The MSDE is also implementing the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) for enhancing the employability of youth by equipping them with industry-relevant skills, including in sectors such as agriculture, food processing and cold-chain management. Under PMKVY, a total of 1,38,680 candidates have been trained/oriented in job-roles related to these sectors in the State of Uttar Pradesh up to 31.12.2025.
