Parliament Question: Status of Completion of Projects under the Smart Cities Mission

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3142 TO BE ANSWERED ON DECEMBER 18, 2025 STATUS OF COMPLETION OF PROJECTS UNDER THE SMART CITIES MISSION NO. 3142. Ms SAYANI GHOSH: Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state (a) whether it is true that out of the hundred cities selected under the Smart Cities Mission, only a few cities have actually completed all their approved projects and if so, the number of cities that have met full completion of targets; (b) the number of extensions granted since the launch of the said Mission; (c) the total numbers of incomplete or stalled projects on the ground, city and State-wise; and (d) whether there is any revised completion deadline for the remaining unfinished projects, if so, the time by which the said Mission is expected to be fully completed across all the hundred cities? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU) (a) and (c) Under Smart Cities Mission (SCM), a total 8064 projects amounting to ₹1,64,811 Cr were taken up since inception of the mission, out of which 7,741 worth ₹1,55,386 Cr have been completed. As reported by the States/ UTs on 01.12.2025, a total of 323 projects amounting to ₹9,425 Cr are ongoing. State/UT wise and City-wise details of ongoing projects under SCM is given at Annexure. (b) Since inception of the Mission, SCM has been extended four times. (d) Post the financial closure of SCM on 31st March, 2025, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has issued Advisory No 27 dated 10th June, 2025 to all States/UTs. The ongoing projects are in different stages of implementation. The Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) have been advised to ensure that all ongoing projects under SCM must be completed under their stipulated time period not later than December 2025. *****Annexure Annexure referred to in reply for part (a) and (c) of Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 3142 for answer on December 18th, 2025 regarding Status of Completion of Projects under the Smart Cities Mission.
