ANSWER MINISTER OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS (SHRI HARDEEP SINGH PURI) (a) to (c): A statement is laid on the Table of the House.STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (C) IN RESPECT OF RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 321 FOR REPLY ON 23.03.2026 REGARDING STATUS OF EXPANSION OF CGD NETWORK ASKED BY SHRI SANJAY KUMAR JHA. (a) to (c) Providing Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections, establishment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and laying of pipeline infrastructure is part of the development of City Gas Distribution (CGD) Network, which is carried out by the entities authorized by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) as per their Minimum Work Programme (MWP) and techno-commercial feasibility. After completion of 12/12A CGD bidding round, PNGRB has authorized entities for the development of CGD network in 307 Geographical Areas (GAs), covering the entire mainland area for the development of CGD network across the country including Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The State-wise details of CGD network as on 31.01.2026 is at Annexure. The number of domestic PNG (D) connections has increased from 22.28 lakh in 2014 to around 162 lakh as of January 2026. Similarly, the number of CNG stations has risen sharply from 783 to 8,616.The number of GAsauthorised has also increased from 53 GAs to 307 GAs thereby covering the entire mainland area of the country including Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Further, the length of operational Natural Gas Pipeline in the country has increased from 15,340 Km in 2014 to 25,923 Km as on September, 2025.
