Parliament Question: Status of Traditional Medicine

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF AYUSH LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 5662 TO BE ANSWERED ON 27.03.2026 Status of Traditional Medicine †5662. Shri Aditya Yadav: Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware of the current status of traditional medicine facilities in the Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh including the availability of qualified AYUSH doctors under various programmes, if so, the details thereof; (b) whether there is a need for improving AYUSH dispensaries with basic herbal medicine equipment and its infrastructure support in the said district; (c) whether the Government proposes to implement additional schemes for the promotion of Yoga and Ayurveda, better utilisation of local herbal resources and integration of AYUSH into primary healthcare to support, holistic health approaches in the district; (d) if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken by the Government to augment the AYUSH infrastructure in the said district including details regarding recruitment, funding and integration schemes; and (e) if not, the reasons thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYUSH (SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV) (a) to (e) Public Health being State subject, the primary responsibility to improve Ayush dispensaries with basic herbal medicine, equipment & its infrastructure support, promotion of Yoga and Ayurveda, better utilisation of local herbal resources, integration of Ayush into primary healthcare to support holistic health approaches and recruitment in Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh, comes under purview of respective State Government. However, Ministry of Ayush is implementing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM) through State/UT Governments for overall development and promotion of Ayush systems. Under NAM, Ministry supports the efforts of State/UT Governments by providing financial assistance to them for different activities as per the provision of NAM guidelines against their 1submitted State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs). The Mission inter-alia makes provision for the following activities: - (i) Operationalization of Ayush Health and Wellness Centres now renamed as Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) by upgrading existing Ayush dispensaries and Sub health Centres. (ii) Co-location of Ayush facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals (DHs). (iii) Upgradation of existing standalone Government Ayush Hospitals. (iv)Upgradation of existing Government/Panchayat/Government aided Ayush Dispensaries/ Construction of building for existing Ayush Dispensary (Rented/ dilapidated accommodation)/ Construction of building to establish new Ayush Dispensary in the area where there are no Ayush facilities available. (v) Setting up of 10/30/50 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospitals (IAH). (vi) Supply of essential drugs to Government Ayush Hospitals, Government Dispensaries and Government/Government aided Teaching Institutional Ayush Hospitals. (vii) Ayush Public Health Programmes. (viii) Establishment of new Ayush colleges in the States where availability of Ayush teaching institutions is inadequate in Government Sector. (ix) Infrastructural development of Ayush Under-Graduate Institutions and Ayush Post- Graduate Institutions/ add on PG/ Pharmacy /Para-Medical Courses. State Government may avail financial assistance by submitting suitable proposals through State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) as per NAM guidelines. As informed by State Government of Uttar Pradesh, 26 Ayurvedic, 12 Homeopathy, 06 Unani Dispensaries are established in Budaun district and 21 Ayurveda Medical Officers, 08 Homoeopathy Medical Officer and 07 Unani Medical Officers are appointed. Under NAM, 21 Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) [AAM(Ayush)] have been approved by upgrading Ayush Dispensaries in Budaun district as per proposals received through SAAPs to support primary healthcare in holistic health approaches and as reported by State Government all are functional. Part time Yoga trainers are recruited in these AAM(Ayush) through which yoga sessions are organised. In AAM(Ayush) herbal gardens are also established to promote awareness to the people about the medicinal value of herbal plants. There are 03 2Yoga Wellness Centres are also operational in district Budaun. Full time Yoga trainers are recruited in these Yoga Wellness Centres through which yoga sessions are organised. Mukhyamantri Arogya Mela, Vaama Saarthi Camp (UP Police Welfare Association), Ayush Aapke Dwar programme are operational in Budaun district through which Ayush Doctors and Para medical staff organised Ayush camps to nearby villages to promote Yoga and Ayush. Outreach activities and Yoga camps are organised in district jail, Budaun. Details of recruitment of Manpower in AAM(Ayush) and Yoga Wellness Centes are as follows:- (i) AAM(Ayush) - 41 part time Yoga Trainers (20 Male & 21 Female). (ii) Yoga Wellness Centres - 03 Full time Yoga trainer & 03 Yoga Assistant. ***** 3
