Parliament Question: Student-Teacher Ratio in Government Schools in Dadra and Nagar Haveli

Smt. Delkar Kalaben Mohanbhai: Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state: (a) the number of habitations in tribal-dominated blocks of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli where children do not have access to any Government primary or upper primary school within a radius of one kilometre and three kilometres respectively as per the mandatory provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009; (b) the details of the Teacher-student Ratio in Government schools located in the tribal areas of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and the number of posts lying vacant out of the sanctioned strength; and (c) the details of the effective steps being taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to fill up the vacant posts at the earliest? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (SHRI JAYANT CHOUDHARY) (a) to (c): Education is a subject in the Concurrent List of the Constitution and the majority of schools in the country are under the administrative control of the respective State Governments and Union Territory Administrations. As reported by the Union Territory of DD&DNH, there are no habitations in the tribal-dominated blocks of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli District where children are deprived of access to primary or upper primary schooling within the statutory neighborhood limits prescribed under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009. As reported by the UT, the District has achieved 100% universal neighbourhood school coverage in compliance with the provisions of the RTE Act, 2009. Government schools in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli District maintain a student-teacher ratio of 1:30 in accordance with the norms prescribed under the RTE Act, 2009. Recruitment of teachers is a continuous process, and vacancies arise due to factors such as retirement, promotion, resignation, opening of new schools and increased requirement of teachers due to growth in student enrolment. As reported by the UT, the Education Department of the Union Territory has completed the recruitment process for the posts of Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), Trained Graduate Teacher (TGTs), and Primary and Upper Primary School Teachers pursuant to the recruitment advertisement dated 06.01.2024. Further, the recruitment process for 281 posts of Primary and Upper Primary School Teachers was advertised on 22.11.2025. *****
