SUBSIDY FOR PROMOTING SOLAR ENERGY

Will the Minister of NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state:
(a) the amount of subsidy being provided by the Union Government for promoting solar energy
in New Delhi;
(b) the total subsidy provided under the Pradhan Mantri-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
(PMSGMBY) during the last three years; and
(c) the number of large consumers obtained solar energy connections under the yojana and the
extent of electricity savings achieved thereunder?

(a) to (c) The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has been implementing the PM
Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) since February 2024, aiming to install rooftop solar
(RTS) systems in one crore residential households across the country by FY 2026–27 with total
financial outlay of Rs. 75021 Cr.
The PMSG: MBY is a demand-driven scheme wherein all residential consumers in the country,
having a grid-connected electricity connection with the local DISCOM, can avail the benefits of
the scheme, for installation of RTS systems by applying on the National Portal
(www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in) of the scheme.
The Central Financial Assistance (CFA) available for installation of rooftop solar (RTS) plants in
the residential sector of Delhi under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) is as
follows: -
• For individual households, the CFA is Rs. 30,000/- per kWp for the first 2 kWp and Rs.
18,000/- per kWp for the additional one kWp. The subsidy is capped at 3 kWp rooftop solar
plant capacity for individual household.
• For Group Housing Societies/ Residential Welfare Associations (GHS/RWA), the CFA is
Rs. 18,000/- per kWp with rooftop solar plant capacity limit of 500 kWp.
During the last three years, starting from the launch of the PMSG: MBY in February 2024 to
20.7.2026, a total of 39,38,805 RTS plants have been installed in the country benefitting 47,47,341
households and a total amount of Rs. 27,323.55 Cr has been released as CFA under the scheme in
the country.
While the electricity bills of consumers installed RTS under the scheme have been largely
reduced, over 18.93 households reported even zero electricity bills for some months, depending
on their self-consumption of electricity.
