(a) the details of the households provided with tap water in Bhind and Datia districts under the
schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation
(AMRUT) 2.0, Jal Hi Amrit and Mission Amrit Sarovar during the last five years, year and
Legislative Assembly/panchayat/Village-wise;
(b) the number of villages presently facing water crisis in such districts, Legislative Assembly-
wise;
(c) the details of the special steps taken/projects implemented to enhance groundwater level; and
(d) the action plan prepared and the targets fixed by the Government for the next two years?

(a) & (b) Since August 2019, Government of India, in partnership with States, is implementing Jal
Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal to make provision of potable water through tap connection in
adequate quantity of prescribed quality and on regular and long-term basis to every rural household
of the country, including those in Bhind and Datia districts of Madhya Pradesh.
As reported on 10.02.2026, out of 1.06 lakh rural households in the Bhind district, more than 0.98
lakh (92.45%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes. Similarly, as
reported on 10.02.2026, out of 2.56 lakh rural households in the Datia district, more than 2.14 lakh
(83.85%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes.
Further, the State/ UT-wise, District-wise and Village-wise status of tap water connection provided
under the Mission in rural areas, inter alia including those in Bhind and Datia and districts of
Madhya Pradesh, is in public domain and available on JJM dashboard at:

Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has informed that Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban
Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 is launched in the year 2021 in all urban Local Bodies (ULBs)/ cities,
enabling the cities to become 'self-reliant' and 'water secure'. Providing universal coverage of
sewerage and septage management in 500 AMRUT cities is one of the major focus areas of
Page 1 of 2AMRUT 2.0. Under the Mission, States/ Union Territories (UTs) are empowered to select appraise,
propose and implement projects.
So far, 19,267 water tap connections in Datia district and 18,366 water tap connections in Bhind
district have been provided through AMRUT/ AMRUT 2.0 & Convergence.
'Jal Hi AMRIT" is a sub-scheme under AMRUT 2.0 reforms, aims to incentivize States and UTs to
efficiently manage sewage treatment plants for recyclable treated water meeting environmental
standards. The focus of sub scheme is to build capacity & incentivizing qualitative improvements in
the treated discharge effluent. So far, 01 Sewage Treatment Plant each in Bhind and Datia district
have been reported as enrolled via online platform for assessment.
Further, Ministry of Rural Development has informed that Mission Amrit Sarovar was launched in
April 2022 to construct or rejuvenate 75 Amrit Sarovars (ponds) in each district, totaling 50,000
across the country. As on 09.02.2026, 115 Amrit Sarovars have been constructed in Bhind and 71 in
Datia.
(c) Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has informed that
Water being a State subject, the aspects related to water resources, including its conservation &
quality are studied, planned, funded and executed by the State Governments themselves as per their
own resources and priorities. Role of the Government of India is limited to being catalytic,
providing technical support and in some cases partial financial assistance in terms with the existing
schemes being implemented by the D/o WR, RD and GR.
However, a number of measures being taken by Government of India for sustainable management of
ground water across the state of Madhya Pradesh including Bhind and Datia district inter alia
including initiatives such as the National Aquifer Mapping (NAQUIM) and the Master Plan for
Artificial Recharge (2020) encourage the implementation of rainwater harvesting structures.
Additionally, the Central Ground Water Authority regulates groundwater usage and mandates
rainwater harvesting in critical zones to ensure sustainable water management. National Water
Policy has been formulated by Department of Water Resources, RD & GR, inter-alia advocates
rainwater harvesting and conservation of water and highlights the need for augmenting the
availability of water through direct use of rainfall. DoWR, RD & GR along with the Central Ground
Water Board (CGWB) and State Governments, conducts annual assessments of India’s dynamic
groundwater resources. CGWB has prepared a Master Plan for Artificial Recharge to Groundwater-
2020 in consultation with States/UTs which is a macro level plan indicating various structures for
the different terrain conditions of the country including State of Madhya Pradesh. The Master Plan
envisages construction of about 5,721 nos. of structures in Bhind and 4,217 nos. of structures in

(d) Hon'ble Finance Minister during her budget speech 2025-26 had announced the extension of Jal
Jeevan Mission until 2028.
