Parliament Question: Target and Status for Construction of House under PMAY-G

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3769 ANSWERED ON 11/08/2026 TARGET AND STATUS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF HOUSE UNDER PMAY-G 3769. Smt. Poonamben Hematbhai Maadam: Shri Kaushalendra Kumar: Will the Minister of RURAL DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state: (a) the details and total number of houses sanctioned, completed and delivered under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-G) during Financial Year 2025-26, State-wise; (b) the current status and target for completion of remaining houses under the scheme; (c) the steps taken to ensure quality construction, timely completion and convergence with other schemes such as Jal Jeevan Mission, electricity and LPG connections; (d) whether any special focus has been given to particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), aspirational districts and disaster-prone areas; and (e) if so, the details of funds released and utilised under PMAY-G during the last two financial years? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT (DR. CHANDRA SEKHAR PEMMASANI) (a): Under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin, a total of 32.47 lakh houses have been sanctioned and 26.57 lakh houses have been completed duringFY 2025-26, inclusive of sanctions issued in previous financial years. The State/UT-wise details areprovided at Annexure - I. (b): As on 03.08.2026, against the total target of 4.18 crore houses allocated to the States/UTs under PMAY-G, 3.91 crore houses have been sanctioned, and 3.12 crore houses have been completed. The remaining 79 lakh sanctioned houses are under construction. Page 1 of 4(c): Under PMAY-G, the house is constructed by the beneficiary himself/herself or under his/her supervision. Further, as per the guidelines of PMAY-G, the States/UTs provide the beneficiaries a bouquet of options of house designs according to the local climatic conditions, using appropriate local material and technology suitable to the region of their residence. The State/UT Government can also facilitate supply of construction material at competitive rates. The Ministry of Rural Development has published a compendium of rural housing typologies “PAHAL” which is available on the program website of PMAY-G. This can be accessed through AwaasApp. Further, to ensure good quality construction of houses under PMAY- G, the Government of India has rolled out Rural Mason Training (RMT) Program with the target to train adequate number of masons for house construction in rural areas. A number of steps have been taken by the Ministry to ensure timely construction of houses in all States/UTs under PMAY-G. These include: (i) Timely allocation of targets to the States/UTs and release of adequate funds; (ii) Regular review of progress; (iii) Monitoring and supervision of the scheme on a Dashboard; (iv) Regular Workshops are conducted by the Ministry with the States/UTs; (v) Rural Mason Training program, etc. In addition to the unit assistance provided under the scheme, PMAY-G households are also provided with piped drinking water through convergence with the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Har Ghar Nal Se Jal (HGNSJ) of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, or other similar schemes. In addition, beneficiaries are supported with electricity connections through relevant schemes implemented by the Ministry of Power, State Governments, or UT Administrations, and are provided Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas or other relevant schemes. (d): As per the scheme guidelines, up to 5% of the targets under PMAY-G, are reserved for Special Projects. E.g. for Rehabilitation / relocation of families whose houses have been completely /substantially damaged on account of Natural hazards as categorized in the extant National Disaster Management Plan of National Disaster Management Authority - Flood, earthquake, fire, etc. Page 2 of 4Further, under PMAY-G, a minimum 60% of the target at the national level is earmarked for both Scheduled Caste (SC)/Schedules Tribes (ST) households subject to availability of such eligible beneficiaries. Additionally, under Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the provision providing pucca houses to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) households with basic amenities is one of the interventions being implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development. (e): The funds under PMAY-G are allocated to States/UTs, with each State/UT treated as a single unit. The distribution of these funds among districts is undertaken by the respective State/UT Governments. Over the last two financial years, expenditure under Special Projects stood at ₹528.04 crore, while Aspirational Districts recorded spending of ₹17,281.58 crore, inclusive of both Central and State shares.
