TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN RAJASTHAN
287. SMT. MAHIMA KUMARI MEWAR:
Will the Minister of TEXTILES वस्त्रमत्रं ी
be pleased to state :
(a) whether the Government is taking special steps to promote textile industry in the historically
famous Beawar district of Rajasthan;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has received a proposal to reopen more than 100 years old
Mahalaxmi textile Mill in Beawar district; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): The Government of India has implemented various schemes/ initiatives to promote
the textile industry across the country including Beawar district of Rajasthan. The major
schemes/initiatives include PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA)
Parks Scheme to create a modern, integrated, world class textile infrastructure; Production
Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme focusing on Man-Made Fibre (MMF) Fabric, MMF Apparel and
Technical Textiles to boost large scale manufacturing and enhancing competitiveness; National
Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) focusing on Research Innovation & Development,
Promotion and Market Development; National Handloom Development Programme; National
Handicraft Development Programme; SAMARTH-Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile
Sector with the objective of providing demand driven, placement oriented, skilling program;
and Silk Samagra-2 for comprehensive development of the sericulture value chain.
(c) & (d): The Mahalaxmi Mills, Beawar, Rajasthan was closed in July, 2008. At present the
operations of the mills of National Textile Corporation (NTC) are under suspension.
