Parliament Question: Tourism Guest Houses in Kerala

ADV DEAN KURIAKOSE: Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has approved the construction of tourism guest houses in Munnar and Alappuzha in Kerala and if so, the details thereof; and (b) the number of such tourism guest houses in the country, State- wise? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU) (a): Yes, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved the construction of Holiday Homes at Munnar and Alleppey (Alappuzha) in Kerala State. Holiday Homes and Touring Officers’ Hostels (TOH) of the Government of India are administered by the Directorate of Estates and maintained by the Central Public Works Department. Development of this facility helps in promotion of local tourism and thus contributes to the economic development of the region, through provision of accommodation to touring Govt. employees and also caters to other tourism needs of the guests on first come first serve basis.
