GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1780 ANSWERED ON 29.07.2026 TRANSMISSION INFRASTRUCTURE FOR EVACUATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY 1780. DR. GUMMA THANUJA RANI SHRI SUBBARAYAN K COM. SELVARAJ V Will the Minister of NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has assessed the adequacy of transmission infrastructure for evacuation of renewable energy generated in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) the steps being taken by the Government to ensure timely development of transmission infrastructure and to increase the transmission capacity for efficient supply of the increased production of renewable energy projects in the said States; and (d) whether it is a fact that the inadequate transmission capacity is affecting the supply side of the recently c ommissioned renewable energy capacity in the country and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND POWER (SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK) (a)& (b) The adequacy of transmission infrastructure for evacuation of renewable energy is assessed through the established transmission planning process, taking into account the renewable energy potential, connectivity applications, generation addition and demand projections. Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) schemes for evacuation of 30,000 MW of renewable energy from Andhra Pradesh and 1000 MW of renewable energy from Tamil Nadu has been approved. (c) Several measures have been taken by the Government to ensure timely development of transmission infrastructure and enhance transmission capacity for efficient evacuation of renewable energy, including: (i) A potential-based transmission planning approach has been adopted, wherein transmission corridors are planned proactively based on renewable energy potential identified by the States/MNRE, projected demand growth and future generation scenarios, even before formal connectivity applications are received. (ii) Resource Adequacy (RA) Plans for Transmission have been prepared in consultation with the respective STUs, considering projected demand, generation mix and renewable energy integration requirements for development of an adequate transmission system. (iii)Implementation of intra state transmission system under Green Energy Corridor to enhance the capacity of the grid to integrate renewable energy within the state.(iv) CTUIL regularly monitors the progress of both generation and transmission projects through Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meetings involving generators, Transmission Service Providers (TSPs) and other stakeholders. In addition, periodic review meetings are conducted by CTUIL, CEA and the Ministry of Power to identify and resolve implementation issues at an early stage. (d) As per Grid-India Limited approximately 21 GW of Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) capacity is being evacuated using the T-GNA mechanism, the evacuation of roughly 12 GW is restricted for limited durations during peak solar generation. This restriction is due to the mismatch between the commissioning of VRE generation and their associated transmission systems as on 25.07.2026. *****
