UPGRADATION OF AIRPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government has undertaken/proposes to undertake strengthening of
passenger facilities and security-related infrastructure at airports in Telangana and if so,
the details thereof;
(b) the details of upgradation/modernisation works sanctioned, approved and executed
during the last three years and the current year, airport-wise;
(c) the details of the funds sanctioned, released and utilised for the said works, airport-
wise; and
(d) the timeline fixed for completion of the ongoing works, airport-wise?
ANSWER
Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol)
(a) to (d): The upgradation and modernization of airports is a continuous process and is
undertaken by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other Airport Operators from time
to time, depending on the passenger demand forecast, operational requirements and
demand from airlines. Development works are taken up in a phased manner, subject to
the availability of land, financial viability, and operational needs related to intended
aircraft operations.
At Hyderabad Airport, the passenger handling capacity has been augmented from 12
Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) to 34 MPPA. Cargo Terminal-2 has been
operationalised and a transit lounge facility for passengers has been made operational.
These works, along with other miscellaneous works, have been undertaken at a
cumulative cost of approximately Rs.1325 crore. Further, the airport operator has
undertaken expansion of the main access road and extension of the Bravo Taxiway.
At Begumpet Airport, AAI has completed resurfacing of the runway and other pavement
works, widening of the perimeter road and other miscellaneous works at an estimated
cost of approximately Rs.42 crore.
The timeline for completion of airport development projects depends upon various
factors such as land acquisition, availability of mandatory clearances, financial closure
