Parliament Question: Upgradation of AYUSH Pharmacies

Shri Jagadish Shettar: Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is taking any measures to upgrade AYUSH Pharmacies and Drug testing laboratories, if so, the details thereof; and (b) whether the programmes under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) are reportedly facing deficiencies due to inadequacy of staff, if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYUSH (SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV) (a) to (b) A statement is laid on the Table of the House. 1THE STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 487 FOR 27th MARCH 2026. (a) Ministry of Ayush is implementing a Central Sector Scheme “Ayush Oushadhi Gunavatta evam Uttpadan Samvardhan Yojana” (AOGUSY) since 2021-22 with total budget outlay of Rs. 122.00 crores for five years. The scheme has inter alia component, to strengthen and up-grade the Ayush Pharmacies and Drug Testing Laboratories (DTLs) to achieve higher standards like WHO-GMP and NABL respectively. Till date, 18 Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy (ASU&H) pharmacies and 07 ASU&H DTLs have been supported financially under this scheme across the country. An amount of Rs. 40.13 crore has been sanctioned as Grant-in-Aid to these pharmacies and DTLs. The state-wise details of fund released for the upgradation of ASU&H pharmacies and Drug Testing Laboratories (DTLs) under the AOGUSY scheme till date are attached at Annexure. (b) Ministry of Ayush is implementing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM) through State/UT Governments and supporting their efforts by providing financial assistance for overall development and promotion of Ayush systems including implementation of different programmes/activities as per the proposals received through State Action Annual Plans (SAAPs) within the existing provisions of NAM guidelines. Since, implementation of the NAM is being done by States/UTs, the primary responsibility to ensure adequate availability of staff for implementation programmes lies with the respective State/UT Governments. However, under NAM, financial assistance is also provided for setting up of 50/30/10 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospitals, Upgradation of Hospitals, Ayushman Aarogya Mandir (Ayush), Ayush Public Health Programs etc, wherein there is a provision for support of Ayush manpower including Ayush Doctors and other supporting staff.
