2389. SHRI HIBI EDEN:
Will the Minister of LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT be pleased to
state:
(a)whether the Government is aware that the ESI Hospital, Ernakulam
caters to the needs of nearly two lakh insured persons and has the
highest number of surgeries among ESI hospitals in the region;
(b)if so, whether the Government is aware that the Employees’ State
Insurance Corporation (ESIC) had sanctioned the upgradation of
ESI Hospital, Ernakulam, from 65 to 100 beds as per Letter No.
54.W.17/11/2020-PMD Vol 1 dated 05-02-2021;
(c)if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken by the
Government so far; and
(d)the details of the current status of the said upgradation and the
reasons for the delay of more than three years?

(a) & (b): The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has
assigned the work to Central Public Work Department (CPWD) for
upgradation of the ESI Hospital Ernakulam. The project is at
conceptual plan stage. The timeline of completion of such project
varies as per the various stages of the construction viz. detailed
concept planning, approvals / clearance of various authorities etc.
(c) & (d): 1,19,832 Insured Persons (IPs) are attached to ESI
Hospital, Ernakulam. The number of major and minor surgeries done
in ESI hospitals in Kerala including ESI hospital, Ernakulam during
2024-25 is annexed.
