Parliament Question: Weavers Service Centres in Andhra Pradesh

SHRI LAVU SRI KRISHNA DEVARAYALU: Will the Minister of TEXTILES वस्त्र मंत्री be pleased to state : (a) the details of Weavers' Service Centres (WSCs) functioning in the country, State-wise along with the number of handloom weavers served by each Centre State-wise; (b) whether the Government has received any proposal for the establishment of a new Weavers' Service Centre at Tirupati or Venkatagiri in Andhra Pradesh and if so, the current status thereof; (c) whether the Government has assessed the need for an additional WSC in the State of Andhra Pradesh, considering that the State has over 1.77 lakh handloom weavers, several nationally recognised weaving clusters and GI-tagged products, but only one existing WSC and the criteria adopted by the Government for sanctioning new Weavers' Service Centers; and (d) whether any new centres are proposed for the State of Andhra Pradesh during the current Plan period? उत्तर ANSWER वस्त्र राज् य मंत्री(श्री पबित्र मार्घरे रटा) THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR TEXTILES (SHRI PABITRA MARGHERITA) (a): Presently, there are 29 Weavers’ Service Centre (WSCs) functioning in the country and the state-wise list of all the WSCs along with the number of handloom weavers served by each Centre State-wise is annexed at Annexure-‘A’ (b) to (d): The establishment of a new, full-fledged WSC requires suitable land and basic infrastructure to be provided by the State Government.
