GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3667 ANSWERED ON 24.03.2026 WIND ENERGY POTENTIAL AND PROJECTS IN JAMMU & KASHMIR 3667. SHRI CHOWDRY MOHAMMAD RAMZAN Will the Minister of NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state: (a) the details of assessment of wind energy potential in Jammu & Kashmir; (b) the current status of NHPC wind project established in Reasi in 2012; and (c) the new wind energy projects planned or under implementation to generate electricity in the Union Territory? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND POWER (SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK) (a) The wind resource assessment conducted by the National Institute of Wind Energy indicate that there is 3 MW potential at 120 m hub height for wind energy projects in Jammu & Kashmir. (b) NHPC had initiated a proposal for installation of a wind power project at Reasi. However, due to logistical challenges associated with transportation of wind turbine blades to the project site and power offtake, the project could not progress beyond the desk study stage. (c) The development of wind projects carried out by developers based on techno-economic assessment. Presently, there is no wind energy projects planned or under implementation in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir. *****
