No. GS/2026/05/GAD/VST/e-file/1/2026/0497/S:- In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 4 of the Census Act, 1948 (XXXVII of 1948) (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”) and in supersession of all previous notifications issued in this behalf, the Government of Gujarat hereby appoints the persons specified in column (3) of the Schedule appended hereto to be the Census Officers with such designation as mentioned in column (4) and at such level as shown in column (2), to take or aid in or supervise the taking of census within the areas as specified against each of them in column (5) of the said Schedule, as follows, namely: IV-A Ex.-17 17-117-2 GUJARAT GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, EX., 09-02-2026 [ PART IV-A SCHEDULE Sr. Level Authority Designation Area or Jurisdiction Remarks No. (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) Within the limits of their Cities under the respective Municipal Municipal Principal 1 Municipal Corporation areas and the Out Commissioners Census Officer Corporations Growth areas of concerned Municipal Corporation Within the limits of Municipal Cities under the Deputy Municipal City Census Corporation areas and the Out 2 Municipal Commissioner Officer Growth areas of concerned Corporations Municipal Corporation In case of Municipalities Chief Officer/ which have been Municipal Executive superseded and Towns/ Officers/ administrators Within the limit of respective Industrially Secretary/ have been Town Census Municipal areas and the Out 3 Notified Areas/ Administrators/ appointed, the Officer Growth areas of concerned Notified Areas/ Notified Area Town Census Municipality. In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (4) of section 4 of the said Act, the Government of Gujarat hereby delegates the powers to the officers specified in column (3) of the above Schedule for appointing Census Officers within their respective jurisdictions. The Government of Gujarat also authorizes the officers specified in column (3) to sign declaration under provision of sub-section (3) of section 4 of the said Act. 3. In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 6 of the said Act, the Government of Gujarat hereby appoints the Officers specified in column (3) of the above Schedule who may by written orders direct the persons mentioned in clauses (a) to (f) of aforesaid sub-section to perform such duties of the Census Officers. 4. As per the provisions of section 11 of the said Act, any Census Officer or any person lawfully required to give assistance towards the taking of the Census and who refuses to perform any duty allotted to him under this Act or any rules made thereunder, or any person who hinders or obstructs another person in performing any such duty, shall be punishable with fine up to one thousand rupees or in case of a conviction shall also be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three years.
