A. BILL No. LXXXI OF 2025. A BILL further to amend the Maharashtra Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2023. Mah. VIII WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Maharashtra Private Universities of 2024. (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2023, for the purposes hereinafter appearing; it is hereby enacted in the Seventy-sixth Year of the Republic of India as follows :— 1. This Act may be called the Maharashtra Private Universities Short title. (Establishment and Regulation) (Amendment) Act, 2025. In the SCHEDULE appended to the Maharashtra Private Universities Amendment of 2024. of Schedule (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2023, in Part II,– of Mah. VIII of 2024. (i) in entry at serial number 4 relating to Dr. D.Y. Patil Dnyaan Prasad University, Pune, in column (2), for the name, location and headquarters of the said university, the following shall be substituted, namely :– “ Dnyaan Prasad Global University, headquarters at Dnyaan Prasad Global University, Pimpri Campus, Survey Nos. 180/2/1 and 180/2/2, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Pimpri- 411 018 and also locations at Dnyaan Prasad Global University, Tathawade Campus, Survey Nos. 87/1, 88, 138/1A, 138/1B, 138/2B and 62/4/3,Tathawade 411 033 Pimpri-Chinchwad, Taluka Haveli, Pune, Maharashtra.” ; (ii) after entry 7 the following entry shall be added, namely :– “ 8. The Pillai University, Navi Mahatma Education Society, Mumbai headquarters at Chembur Naka, Mumbai Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai 400 071.”. VIII of 2024), is enacted for establishment, incorporation and regulation of self-financed private universities in the State of Maharashtra, for development and advancement of higher education in the State and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. 2. Section 6 of the said Act provides that the Government, after considering the report submitted by the Verification Committee under sub-section (4) of section 5 of the said Act, if satisfied that the sponsoring body has complied with the provisions of section 5 of the said Act, may permit the establishment of a private university, by inclusion of the name, location and headquarters of the private university and their sponsoring bodies in Part II of the Schedule, by amending the Schedule by enacting a law by the State Legislature. 3. Dr. D.Y. Patil Dnyaan Prasad University, Pune, is established as per said section 6. Now, the sponsoring body of the Dr. D. Y. Patil Dnyaan Prasad University, Pune, has passed a resolution to change the name, location and headquarters of the said university, mentioned in the said Part II of the Schedule and requested the Government to amend the said Act, suitably. 4. As provided in said section 6 of the said Act, the Government after considering the report submitted by the Verification Committee under sub- section (4) of section 5 of the said Act, is satisfied that the sponsoring body, Mahatma Education Society, Chembur Naka, Mumbai 400 071, has complied with the provisions of section 5 of the said Act, for establishment of private university by the name of “ Pillai University, Navi Mumbai ”. 5. Therefore, with a view to change the name, location and headquarters of Dr. D. Y. Patil Dnyaan Prasad University, Pune and to establish the Pillai University, Navi Mumbai, a self-financed private university, the Government considers it expedient to amend Part II of the Schedule appended to the Maharashtra Private Universities (Establishment and Regulations) Act, 2023, suitably. 6.
