REGULATION, 2025
No. 17 of 2025
Promulgated by the President in the Seventy-sixth Year of the Republic of India.
A Regulation further to amend the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition)
Act, 1970, in its application to the Union territory of Lakshadweep.
In exercise of the powers conferred by article 240 of the Constitution, the
President is pleased to promulgate the following Regulation made by her:—
1. (1) This Regulation may be called the Contract Labour (Regulation and Short title,
Abolition) Lakshadweep (Amendment) Regulation, 2025. extent and
commencement.
(2)It extends to the whole of the Union territory of Lakshadweep.
(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Administrator may, by
notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.2 THE GAZETTE OF IND2 IA EXTRAORDINARY [Part II—
Amendment of 2. In the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970 (hereinafter 37 of 1970.
section 1. referred to as the principal Act), in section 1, in sub-section (4),—
(a) in clause (a), for the words “twenty or more workmen”, the words
“fifty or more workmen” shall be substituted;
(b) in clause (b), for the words “twenty or more workmen”, the words
“fifty or more workmen” shall be substituted;
(c)in the proviso, for the words “less than twenty”, the words “less than
fifty” shall be substituted.
Amendment of 3.In section 2 of the principal Act, after clause (g), the following clause shall
section 2. be inserted, namely:—
‘(gg) “State Government” means the Administrator of the Union
territory of Lakshadweep appointed by the President under article 239 of the
Constitution;’.
