THE TELECOM REGULATORY AUTHORITY OF INDIA
(AMENDMENT) ACT, 2014

AN ACT further to amend the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997.
BE it enacted by Parliament in the Sixty-fifth Year of the Republic of India as follows:—
1. (1) This Act may be called the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Short title
Act, 2014. and com-
mencement.
(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 28th day of May, 2014.
24 of 1997. 2. In the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997 (hereinafter referred to as the Amendment
principal Act), in section 5,— of section 5.
(i) for sub-section (8), the following sub-section shall be substituted, namely:—
“(8) The Chairperson and the whole-time members shall not, for a period
of two years from the date on which they cease to hold office as such, except
with the previous approval of the Central Government, accept—
(a) any employment either under the Central Government or under

(b) any appointment in any company in the business of
telecommunication services.”;
(ii) the Explanation at the end shall be omitted.
Repeal and 3. (1) The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Ordinance, 2014, is Ord. 3 of 2014.
saving. hereby repealed.
(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the principal
Act, as amended by the said Ordinance, shall be deemed to have been done or taken under
the corresponding provisions of the principal Act, as amended by this Act.
