Ministry of Communications TRAI Assesses Network Quality Across Barpeta and Bongaigaon Districts in the State of Assam under Assam Licensed Service Area (LSA) प्रव तथ: 03 DEC 2025 5:38PM by PIB Delhi The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released its Independent Drive Test (IDT) findings for the Assam LSA, covering extensive city routes of Barpeta and Bongaigaon Districts in the month of October 2025. The drive tests, conducted under the supervision of the TRAI Regional Office, Kolkata, were designed to capture real-world mobile network performance across diverse usage environments- Urban Zones, Institutional Hotspots, business areas, rural residential areas etc. Between 28th October 2025 and 31st October 2025, TRAI teams conduced detailed tests across Barpeta and Bongaigaon districts in the state of Assam covering 230.8 Km of city drive test, 8 Hotspot locations and 1.1 Km of walk test. Technologies evaluated included 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, reflecting the service experience of users across multiple handset capabilities. The findings of the IDT have already been intimated to all the TSPs concerned. Key Parameters Assessed: a) Voice Services: Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), Call Setup Time, Call Silence Rate, Speech Quality (MOS), Coverage. b) Data Services: Download/Upload Throughput, Latency, Jitter, Packet Drop Rate, and Video Streaming Delay. The overall mobile network performance in Barpeta and Bongaigaon districts is summarized below: Call Setup Success Rate- Airtel, BSNL, RJIL and VIL have call setup success rate of 100.00%, 86.52%, 100.00% and 99.39% respectively in Auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G). Drop Call Rate Airtel, BSNL, RJIL and VIL have drop call rate of of 0.00%, 4.22%, 0.00% & 0.93% respectively in Auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G). 5G Data Services delivered maximum average download speed of 231.53 Mbps and maximum average upload speed of 21.43 Mbps in city drive. The poor Signal Strength in auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G) has been observed for 3.26%, 47.09%, 3.34% & 9.98% of the total IDT route in case of Airtel, BSNL, RJIL & VIL respectively. In Barpeta and Bongaigaon Districts, the assessment included the areas of - Simlaguri, Bongaigaon, Goraimari, Sorbhog, Borbila Manikpr, Sorbhog, Simla, Kayakuchi, Bhawanipur, Kalgachia, Howly, Barpeta, Jania, Tarabari, Sonabari, Barnagar, Byatkuchi and Senbari etc. TRAI also evaluated real-world conditions at (i) Baosi Banikanta Kakati College Nagaon Omura; (ii) Bongaigaon College Bongaigaon; (iii) Bongaigaon Engineering College Sanyashi Hill Bongaigaon; (iv) DC Office Barpeta; (v) DistrictCourt Bongaigaon Bhatipara; (vi) Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital Barpeta Joti Gaon Jaher Pam; (vii) Govt. H.S School Barpeta; (viii) M K College Kaltali, through static testing and at (i) New Bongaigaon Junction Railway Station Mahabirstan, through walk-test.
