**Summary:**
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) conducted an Independent Drive Test (IDT) in Coimbatore City and its adjoining areas within the Tamil Nadu Licensed Service Area (LSA) in June 2025. The objective was to evaluate the real-world performance of mobile networks across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies in diverse environments, including urban zones, institutional hotspots, and rural residential areas.
The drive tests, overseen by the TRAI Regional Office, Hyderabad, covered 409.7 km of city routes, 4.3 km of walk tests, and 8 hotspot locations between June 24th and June 27th, 2025. Key performance indicators (KPIs) assessed included:
* **Voice Services:** Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), Call Setup Time (CST), Call Silence Rate, Speech Quality (Mean Opinion Score - MOS), and coverage.
* **Data Services:** Download/Upload Throughput, Latency, Jitter, Packet Drop Rate, and Video Streaming Delay.
The overall mobile network performance in Coimbatore city reflected the following:
* **Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR):** Airtel (100.00%), BSNL (90.71%), RJIL (99.85%), and VIL (99.55%) in Autoselection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G).
* **Drop Call Rate (DCR):** Airtel (0.15%), BSNL (3.04%), RJIL (0.15%), and VIL (0.15%) in Autoselection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G).
* **5G Data Services:** Maximum average download throughput of 278.51 Mbps and upload throughput of 34.68 Mbps.
The assessment covered areas including Thudiyalur, Gounder Mills, Selvapuram, Kovaipudur, Malumichampatti, Podanur, Kallapalayam, Irugur, Arasur, Kalapatti, Ganapathy and Sowri Palayam. TRAI also evaluated performance at Coimbatore Airport, District Collector Office, Gandhipuram Bus Stand, Isha Foundation, Perur Patteswara Swamy Temple, PSG Hospital, SEZ Saravanampatti, and Shanthi Social Service (SSS).
