TRAI Assesses Network Quality Across Visakhapatnam City and Coastal Corridor and their adjoining areas in the State of Andhra Pradesh under Andhra Pradesh Licensed Service Area
**Summary:**
In July 2025, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released findings from Independent Drive Tests (IDT) conducted in June 2025 across the Andhra Pradesh Licensed Service Area (LSA), focusing on Visakhapatnam City, the coastal corridor, and adjoining areas. The tests evaluated 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G network performance in diverse environments, including urban zones, institutional hotspots, coastal areas, and rural residential areas. Testing spanned 342.9 km of city routes, 3.6 km of walk tests, 19 km of coastal corridor routes, and 8 hotspot locations.
Key parameters assessed included:
* **Voice Services:** Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), Call Setup Time, Call Silence Rate, Speech Quality (MOS), and Coverage.
* **Data Services:** Download/Upload Throughput, Latency, Jitter, Packet Drop Rate, and Video Streaming Delay.
Overall mobile network performance in Visakhapatnam city showed the following:
* **Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR):** Airtel (99.15%), BSNL (95.55%), RJIL (99.83%), and VIL (96.83%) in Autoselection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G).
* **Drop Call Rate (DCR):** Airtel (0.00%), BSNL (4.66%), RJIL (0.00%), and VIL (0.34%) in Autoselection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G).
* **5G Data Services:** Maximum average download throughput of 204.91 Mbps and upload throughput of 20.49 Mbps.
Testing locations within Visakhapatnam City included Purana Market, Port Main Road, Jail Road, Siripuram Junction, MVP Colony, Pedawaltair, Chinawaltair, Maddilapalem, Kailash giri, Vizag Viewpoint, Sagar Nagar Beach, Rushikonda Beach, IT Park Beach, Beach Road, Bheemunipatnam, Gollalapalem, Bangalametta, Gurrampalem, Rampuram, Sureddivanipalem, Paravada, Yendada, Madura Wada, Pendurthi, Simhachalam, Gajuwaka, Steel Plant, NTPC, NAD junction, Airport, Naval dockyard road.
Real-world conditions were also evaluated at locations such as Gazuwaka Bus Depot, Vizag RTC Bus Complex, Rushikonda Beach, Shree Ram Temple, ACA Vizag Cricket Stadium, Vizag Railway Station, Vizag Steel Plant, and VMRDA Kailash Giri.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released its Independent Drive Test (IDT) findings for the
Andhra Pradesh Licensed Service Area (LSA), covering extensive city routes of Visakhapatnam City and
coastal corridor in the month of June 2025. The drive tests, conducted under the supervision of the TRAI
Regional Office, Hyderabad, were designed to capture real-world mobile network performance across diverse
usage environments- Urban Zones, Institutional Hotspots, Coastal and rural residential areas etc.

Between 10 June 2025 to 13 June 2025, TRAI teams conducted detailed tests across 342.9 Kms of city
drive test, 3.6 Kms of walk test, 19Kms of coastal corridor drive test and 8 Hotspot locations. Technologies
evaluated included 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, reflecting the service experience of users across multiple handset
capabilities. The findings of the IDT have been intimated to all the TSPs concerned.
Key Parameters Assessed:
a) Voice Services: Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), Call Setup Time, Call Silence
Rate, Speech Quality (MOS), and Coverage.

The overall mobile network performance in Visakhapatnam city is summarized below:
Call Setup Success Rate - Airtel, BSNL, RJIL and VIL have 99.15%, 95.55%, 99.83% and 96.83% call
setup success rate respectively in Auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G).
Drop Call Rate - Airtel, BSNL, RJIL and VIL have drop call rate 0.00%, 4.66%, 0.00% and 0.34%
respectively in Auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G).
5G data services: Maximum average download throughput of 204.91 Mbps and upload throughput of 20.49
Mbps.
