1. Whereas the lnternational Convention on "Standards of Training,
Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers" (STCW), 1978, as amended,
requires maritime administration to control, monitor and supervise the Maritime
Training lnstitutes (MTl) approved for conducting the maritime courses.

Whereas the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic caused disruptions in the
education system across the country leading to unprecedented uncertainties.

Whereas the maritime courses were suspended by the Directorate vide
DGS Order No. 02 of 2020 dated 16th March , 2020 and DGS Order No. 05 of 2020
dated 23 March, 2O2O owing to the pandemic COVID-19.

Whereas the Directorate had issued Training Circular No. 12 of 2020 dated
01.04.2020 on "Minimum Eligibility criteria for admission in Pre-Sea maritime
courses, introduction of Common Entrance Test (CET) and Online Counseling".
The said circular along with other minimum eligibility criteria also mentions about
minimum and maximum age limit for the admission to the course.

ln view of the above, the Director General of Shipping has decided to relax
the maximum age prescribed in the Annexure of the DGS Training circular 12 of
2020 by one year for admission to all the pre-sea courses and for all categories
(Gen./SC/STioBC and women candidate of each category) for the academic year
2020-21 only.
