Scindia Inaugurates First-Ever Drone Delivery of Tiranga by India Post India Post delivers Tiranga by drone from Mandi Head Post Office to Rehardhar Branch Post Office in Himachal Pradesh on the eve of Independence Day प्रव तथ: 14 AUG 2026 7:46PM by PIB Delhi In a unique celebration of patriotism, public service and technological innovation, the Department of Posts today delivered the National Flag, the Tiranga, through a drone from Mandi Head Post Office to Rehardhar Branch Post Office in Himachal Pradesh, marking the first-ever drone delivery of the Tiranga by India Post.

The initiative was inaugurated and carried out virtually by the Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, on the eve of Independence Day.

Witnessing the live drone take-off from Mandi Head Post Office, the Union Minister interacted with postal officials and the drone operator. The drone subsequently landed at Rehardhar Branch Post Office, where the postal team received the parcel carrying the Tiranga and formally handed it over to an army veteran, adding a special significance to the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that the journey of the Tiranga through the skies of Himachal Pradesh represents the spirit of a new India that is determined to overcome geographical barriers and reach every citizen. He said that this Independence Day carries added significance as the nation commemorates 150 years of Vande Mataram, bringing together national pride, the spirit of service and India’s aspirations for a Viksit Bharat.

The Union Minister also highlighted that the Tiranga should not only be in every home, but also in the hearts of every Indian. In this spirit, India Post is contributing to the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign by making the National Flag available for delivery to citizens across the country, enabling people to participate in the celebration of national pride from their homes.

The drone delivery from Mandi to Rehardhar demonstrates how emerging technology can complement India Post’s extensive physical network and strengthen last-mile connectivity, particularly in remote and difficult terrains. By exploring drone-based mail transmission, the Department of Posts is seeking innovative solutions to ensure that postal and public services can reach citizens even where conventional modes of transportation pose challenges.

In line with the vision of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for a technologically advanced, inclusive and connected Viksit Bharat, the Department of Posts has planned the deployment of drone-based mail transmission across 150 identified routes in Himachal Pradesh and Assam.
