Posted On: 05 SEP 2026 4:42PM by PIB Delhi The Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, today launched the India Valve Registry at India Valves 2026, a national academic meeting dedicated to advancing the treatment of valvular and structural heart diseases, in Chennai.

He underlined that behind every medical procedure, clinical decision and scientific advancement is ultimately a human being, a patient who wishes to live longer, healthier and with dignity.

Highlighting the remarkable advances made in cardiovascular medicine, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan noted that while valvular and structural heart diseases remain an important and growing challenge, advances in medical science have transformed the way these conditions are treated.He emphasised that every advancement in medical science brings with it a new responsibility to ensure that its benefits are inclusive and accessible to all. He said that healthcare is a human right and should be accessible to everyone.

The Vice President described the launch of the India Valve Registry as an important step in this direction.

He said that a valve registry, by systematically recording information on patients undergoing heart valve interventions, their treatment and outcomes over time, can transform individual clinical experiences into collective medical knowledge.

Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan stressed the importance of generating India-specific clinical evidence. He noted that several countries have developed national registries for advanced valve interventions and other cardiovascular procedures and welcomed efforts to establish such a collaborative initiative in India.

He said that such registries would help create “our country’s own data for our own countrymen” and would enable the medical community to better understand outcomes, identify challenges and gaps, learn from experience and improve patient care.

The Vice President highlighted India’s growing stature as a centre of medical expertise and innovation.

Referring to India’s achievements during the COVID-19 pandemic, he said that the country not only developed vaccines for its own people but also supplied vaccines to around 100 countries, demonstrating India’s growing medical and technological capabilities.

“Our doctors, scientists and healthcare professionals have earned respect across the world. India has demonstrated remarkable capabilities in advanced medical treatment,” he said.

Referring to the national goal of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan said that a developed India must also be a Swasth Bharat.

Concluding his address, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan called for collective efforts to build a healthcare ecosystem in which innovation, technology and scientific progress are ultimately measured by their ability to improve human lives.

About India Valves 2026 & India Valve Registry India Valves 2026 is a national academic meeting on valvular and structural heart disease, bringing together leading cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, researchers and healthcare professionals from across the country and abroad for scientific exchange, training and collaborative research.

The India Valve Registry is a collaborative multicentre initiative for systematic, secure and de-identified collection of real-world data on transcatheter valve interventions across India, aimed at strengthening India-specific clinical evidence and improving patient care.
