SafaiMitras to be Felicitated on Swachh Bharat Diwas
Posted On: 28 SEP 2026 2:42PM by PIB Mumbai Nagpur, 28 September 2026 Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) is undertaking a wide range of activities related to cleanliness, environmental protection, waste management and community participation across all its 10 Areas and Headquarters under Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and Special Campaign 6. Swachhata Hi Seva is being observed from September 17 to October 2, 2026, under the national theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.” As part of the campaign, Swachhata Pledge programmes were organised across all Area offices and Headquarters, with the participation of more than 10,000 employees. Cleanliness messages are being taken to schools, villages and public places through selfie campaigns, awareness programmes, street plays, debates, extempore sessions and other activities. Around 650 students have been engaged through “Swachh Paathshala: Yuva for Swachhata”, while around 500 participants have taken part in “Kabad Se Jugaad” and “Kabad Se Kala” activities.
Community participation has also been encouraged through Kabaddi tournaments, Rangoli competitions and Swachh Bazar activities across different Areas. Key initiatives include a Waste to Wealth programme and e-waste collection drive in Chandrapur Area; Kabaddi and cleanliness activities in Pathakhera; ‘Kabad Se Jugaad’ exhibitions in Majri and Nagpur; a Waste-to-Art Rangoli competition for students in Ballarpur; and screening of a short film on Swachhata initiatives in Wani Area.
Under Special Campaign 6, e-waste management has been accorded special focus. Activities covering e-waste collection, segregation and responsible disposal are being undertaken along with scrap disposal, workplace cleanliness, record management, efficient utilisation of office space and digitalisation. The first E-Waste Kiosk under the campaign has been established in Chandrapur Area.
The health and safety of sanitation workers has also been accorded priority. Under the SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivir initiative, preventive health check-up camps have so far covered more than 690 SafaiMitras, contractual workers and helpers. Distribution of safety kits, shoes and T-shirts is also being undertaken across various Areas.
Under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, a plantation drive has commenced in Pathakhera Area. Meanwhile, beautification work at 10 Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) across WCL is in progress, covering cleaning, plantation and wall painting. During the concluding phase of thecampaign, cleanliness drives will be organised at more than 20 public places, including temples, hospitals, markets and community spaces, across different Areas.
As the campaign moves towards its culmination, WCL will organise the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” Shramdaan on October 1, 2026. Employees and local communities across all Areas will participate together in cleanliness activities at prominent public places.
The campaign will culminate on October 2, Swachh Bharat Diwas, with the felicitation of SafaiMitras in recognition of their contribution to cleanliness and public hygiene. Special Gram Sabhas will also be organised under “Jan Bhagidari for Swachhata” across village panchayats in and around WCL Areas. These Gram Sabhas will create awareness among rural communities about the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and source segregation of waste.
Through Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and Special Campaign 6, WCL continues to advance cleanliness as a sustained, participatory movement, while strengthening clean workplaces, responsible waste management, environmental protection, community participation and a culture of cleanliness across its coalfields.
