NCAHP Mandates Digital IDs and Autonomous Rating Boards for Allied Healthcare

Allied healthcare practitioners across India will soon require a verifiable digital identity before stepping into clinical roles. Under newly notified rules from the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions, all recognized practitioners must secure registration featuring a unique identification number and a secure QR-coded certificate across integrated central and state registers.

The regulatory overhaul establishes dedicated autonomous boards under State Allied and Healthcare Councils to oversee undergraduate and postgraduate education, ethical conduct, and institutional ratings. For states lagging behind without functional local councils, an interim Central Assessment Committee will step in directly to conduct institutional inspections, issue approvals, and publish ratings in the public domain.

The commission also formalized a competency-based curriculum for the Diploma in Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology under the One Nation One Curriculum framework. The two-year program requires a compulsory six-month clinical internship, making hands-on diagnostic experience mandatory across institutions from the 2027โ€“28 academic session.

The framework introduces free interim registrations for enrolled interns and structured entry routes for foreign-qualified Indian professionals. By linking license renewals every five years to mandatory continuing professional development, regulators aim to weed out unaccredited operators and enforce clinical safety in primary care, imaging, and hospital networks.
