S T A T U T O R Y I N S T R U M E N T S 2025 No. 588 CIVIL AVIATION The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Royal International Air Tattoo, Royal Air Force Fairford) Regulations 2025 Made - - - - 14th May 2025 Coming into force - - 16th July 2025 The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the areas specified in regulation 3 by reason of the intended holding there of flying displays associated with the Royal International Air Tattoo 2025.
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(a).
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Royal International Air Tattoo, Royal Air Force Fairford) Regulations 2025 and they come into force on 16th July 2025.
Interpretation
2. In regulation 3(3) and (4) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(b).
Restricted airspace
3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (5), and during the periods specified in paragraph (3), no aircraft is to fly below Flight Level(c) 85 within the area bounded by—
(a) straight lines joining successively the following points—
(i) 514433N 0020502W,
(ii) 514733N 0014405W, and
(iii) 515006N 0012925W,
(b) the clockwise arc of a circle having a radius of 5.5 nautical miles centred at 514513N 0013334W between 515006N 0012925W and 514737N 0012537W,
(c) straight lines joining successively the following points—
(i) 514737N 0012537W,
(ii) 514834N 0011958W,
(a) S.I. 2016/765, as amended by S.I. 2024/990; there are other amending instruments, but none is relevant.
(b) Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).
(c) The term “Flight Level” is defined in Schedule 1 to the Air Navigation Order 2016.(iii) 514349N 0011753W,
(iv) 513621N 0012737W, and
(v) 514433N 0020502W.
(2) Subject to paragraph (5), and during the periods specified in paragraph (3), no aircraft is to fly below Flight Level 65 within the area bounded by—
(a) straight lines joining successively the following points—
(i) 514124N 0021027W,
(ii) 513621N 0012737W,
(iii) 513600N 0012800W,
(iv) 513500N 0014600W, and
(v) 513530N 0020341W, and
(b) the clockwise arc of a circle having a radius of 4.6 nautical miles centred at 514005N 0020322W between 513530N 0020341W and 514124N 0021027W.
(3) The periods referred to in paragraphs (1) and (2) begin with 0715 hours and end with 1900 hours on each of the five days beginning with 16th July 2025 and ending with 20th July 2025.
(4) Subject to paragraph (5), beginning with 0645 hours and ending with 1745 hours on 21st July 2025 no aircraft is to fly below Flight Level 65 within the area bounded by straight lines joining successively the following points—
(i) 514457N 0015711W,
(ii) 514751N 0013753W,
(iii) 514420N 0013728W,
(iv) 513732N 0015652W,
(v) 513747N 0015652W, and
(vi) 514457N 0015711W.
(5) Paragraphs (1), (2) and (4) do not apply to any aircraft—
(a) flying in accordance with a clearance issued by the Terminal Air Traffic Control Centre
(South) at Royal Air Force Brize Norton, or
(b) insofar as flying is already prohibited by the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Ministry of Defence Restricted Airspace) Regulations 2024(a).
Signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport Karen L Michaels Grade 7 14th May 2025 Department for Transport EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in the vicinity of Royal Air Force Fairford, Gloucestershire, during the Royal International Air Tattoo 2025 which is scheduled to take place there on 16th July to 21st July 2025, inclusive.
Many aircraft will be involved in high energy manoeuvres during the event and therefore the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport agree that flying should be restricted in the vicinity of Royal Air Force Fairford for reasons of public safety.

2These Regulations apply except insofar as flying is already prohibited by the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Ministry of Defence Restricted Airspace) Regulations 2024 (S.I.
2024/1382).
The times mentioned in regulation 3(3) and (4) are Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) which is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).

(AIC) and Notice to Aviation (NOTAM).
