STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2026 No. 110 MEDICINES HEALTH CARE AND ASSOCIATED PROFESSIONS The Human Medicines (Authorisation by Pharmacists and Supervision by Pharmacy Technicians) Order 2025 (Commencement) Order of Council 2026 Made - - - - 4th February 2026 At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 4th day of February 2026 By the Lords of His Majesty’s most Honourable Privy Council Their Lordships make the following Order of Council in exercise of the powers conferred by article 1(3) of the Human Medicines (Authorisation by Pharmacists and Supervision by Pharmacy Technicians) Order 2025(1). Citation 1. This Order may be cited as the Human Medicines (Authorisation by Pharmacists and Supervision by Pharmacy Technicians) Order 2025 (Commencement) Order of Council 2026. Appointed day 2. 10th December 2026 is the appointed day for the coming into force of the Human Medicines (Authorisation by Pharmacists and Supervision by Pharmacy Technicians) Order 2025 in so far as it is not already in force on that date. EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order) This Order of Council provides for the commencement of the Human Medicines (Authorisation by Pharmacists and Supervision by Pharmacy Technicians) Order 2025 (“the 2025 Order”) in so far as it is not yet in force. This Order brings into force provisions in the 2025 Order amending, in particular, the Medicines Act 1968 (c. 67), the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 (S.I. 2012/1916) and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004 (S.I. 2004/1031). These provisions relate to allowing pharmacists to authorise pharmacy technicians to perform tasks that would otherwise need to be performed by, or under, the supervision of pharmacists, and allow pharmacy technicians to take primary responsibility for the preparation and assembly of medicinal products in hospital aseptic facilities. 2
