DECISION OF THE EEA JOINT COMMITTEE No 83/2020
of 12 June 2020
amending Annex XI (Electronic communication, audiovisual services and information society) and
Protocol 37 (containing the list provided for in Article 101) to the EEA Agreement [2023/532]
THE EEA JOINT COMMITTEE,
Having regard to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (“the EEA Agreement”), and in particular Article 98
thereof,
Whereas:
(1) Regulation (EU) 2019/517 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 March 2019on the implementation
and functioning of the .eu top-level domain name and amending and repealing Regulation (EC) No 733/2002 and
repealing Commission Regulation (EC) No 874/2004(1)is to be incorporated into the EEA Agreement.
(2) Regulation (EU) 2019/517 repeals, with effect from 13 October 2022, Regulation (EC) No 733/2002 of the
European Parliament and of the Council(2) and Commission Regulation (EC) No 874/2004(3), which are
incorporated into the EEA Agreement and which are consequently to be repealed under the EEA Agreement with
effect from 13 October 2022.
(3) Annex XI and Protocol 37 to the EEA Agreement should therefore be amended accordingly,
HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:
Article 1
Annex XI to the EEA Agreement shall be amended as follows:
1. The text of point 5o (deleted) is replaced by the following:
‘32019 R 0517: Regulation (EU) 2019/517 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 March 2019on the
implementation and functioning of the .eu top-level domain name and amending and repealing Regulation (EC)
No 733/2002 and repealing Commission Regulation (EC) No 874/2004 (OJ L 91, 29.3.2019, p. 25).
The provisions of the Regulation shall, for the purposes of this Agreement, be read with the following adaptation:
In Articles 4(4) and (5) and 11(f), the references to Union law shall be understood as references to the EEA Agreement.
Modalities for association of the EFTA States in accordance with Article 101 of the Agreement:
The EFTA States shall participate fully in the .eu Multistakeholder Advisory Group, except for the right to vote.’
2. The following is added in point 5oa (Regulation (EC) No 733/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council):

3. The texts of points 5oa (Regulation (EC) No 733/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council) and 5oab
(Commission Regulation (EC) No 874/2004) shall be deleted with effect from 13 October 2022.
Article 2
The following point is added in Protocol 37:
‘41. The .eu Multistakeholder Advisory Group (Regulation (EU) 2019/517 of the European Parliament and of the Council).’
Article 3
The text of Regulation (EU) 2019/517 in the Icelandic and Norwegian languages, to be published in the EEA Supplement to
the Official Journal of the European Union, shall be authentic.
Article 4
This Decision shall enter into force on 13 June 2020, provided that all the notifications under Article 103(1) of the EEA
Agreement have been made*.
Article 5
This Decision shall be published in the EEA Section of, and in the EEA Supplement to, the Official Journal of the European
Union.
