12.1.2021 E N O f f i c i a l J o u r n a l o f t h e E u r o p e a n U nion L 9/1 II (Non-legislative acts) DECISIONS POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE DECISION (CFSP) 2021/22 of 16 December 2020 on the appointment of the Head of Mission of the European Union CSDP mission in Niger (EUCAP Sahel Niger) (EUCAP Sahel Niger/2/2020) THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE, Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular the third paragraph of Article 38 thereof, Having regard to Council Decision 2012/392/CFSP of 16 July 2012 on the European Union CSDP mission in Niger (EUCAP Sahel Niger)(1), and in particular Article 9(1) thereof, Having regard to the proposal from the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Whereas: (1) Pursuant to Decision 2012/392/CFSP, the Political and Security Committee (PSC) is authorised, in accordance with the third paragraph of Article 38 of the Treaty, to take the relevant decisions for the purpose of exercising the political control and strategic direction of the European Union CSDP mission in Niger (EUCAP Sahel Niger), including the decision to appoint a Head of Mission. (2) On 2 May 2018, the PSC adopted Decision (CFSP) 2018/726(2), appointing Mr Frank VAN DER MUEREN as Head of Mission of EUCAP Sahel Niger from 1 May 2018. (3) On 7 September 2020, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2020/1254(3), amending Decision 2012/392/CFSP and extending the mandate of EUCAP Sahel Niger until 30 September 2022. (4) On 29 September 2020, the PSC adopted Decision (CFSP) 2020/1403(4), amending Decision (CFSP) 2018/726 by setting 15 January 2021 as the end date of the mandate of Mr Frank VAN DER MUEREN as Head of Mission of EUCAP Sahel Niger.
