**Summary:**
On July 7, 2022, the Political and Security Committee (PSC) adopted Decision CFSP 2022/1179, appointing Rear Admiral Riccardo MARCHI as the EU Force Commander for the European Union military operation Atalanta, which aims to deter, prevent, and repress acts of piracy and armed robbery off the Somali coast. This decision, effective immediately, repeals PSC Decision CFSP 2022/217 of February 15, 2022, which had previously appointed Rear Admiral Fabrizio BONDI to the position. The decision follows a recommendation from the EU Operation Commander on June 30, 2022, and agreement from the EU Military Committee on the same day. The legal basis for this decision lies in Article 38 of the Treaty on European Union and Article 6(1) of Council Joint Action 2008/851/CFSP. The decision was done in Brussels. The Chairperson of the Political and Security Committee is D. PRONK.
