**Summary:**
On July 13, 2022, the Political and Security Committee (PSC) adopted Decision CFSP 2022/1224, appointing Commodore Rui Miguel Marcelo CORREIA as the EU Force Commander for the European Union military operation Atalanta, effective August 4, 2022. This operation aims to deter, prevent, and repress acts of piracy and armed robbery off the Somali coast. The decision follows a recommendation from the EU Operation Commander on June 2, 2022, and agreement from the EU Military Committee on June 9, 2022. This decision also repeals Decision CFSP 2022/1179, which had previously appointed Rear Admiral Riccardo MARCHI as the EU Force Commander. The legal basis for this decision is Article 38 of the Treaty on European Union and Article 6(1) of Council Joint Action 2008/851/CFSP.
