NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 6th July, 2017
No. MCI-18(1)/2017-Med./123598.—In exercise of powers conferred by Section 33 of the Indian Medical
Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956), the Medical Council of India with the previous sanction of the Central Government
hereby makes the following regulations to further amend the “The Opening of a New or Higher Course of Study or
Training (including Post-graduate Course of Study or Training) and Increase of Admission Capacity in any Course of
Study or Training (including a Postgraduate Course of Study or Training) Regulations, 2000.” namely:—
1. (i) These regulations may be called the “The Opening of a New or Higher Course of Study or Training (including
Post-graduate Course of Study or Training) and Increase of Admission Capacity in any Course of Study or
Training (including a Postgraduate Course of Study or Training) Regulations, 2000.”.
(ii) They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the “The Opening of a New or Higher Course of Study or Training (including Post-graduate Course of Study
or Training) and Increase of Admission Capacity in any Course of Study or Training (including a Postgraduate
Course of Study or Training) Regulations, 2000.”, further amended till 29/12/2015, the following additions/
modifications / deletions / substitutions, shall be as indicated therein:—
3. Clause 3 sub-clause 4 under the heading “Qualifying Criteria” in Part – I “Scheme for Permission of the Central
Government for Opening a new Or higher course of study or training (Including a Postgraduate Course of Study
or Training) in a Medical College or Institution” i.e. “That the medical college/institution has a feasible and
time bound programme to provide additional equipment and infrastructural facilities like the number of staff,
space, funds, equipment and teaching beds etc, for starting these higher courses as laid down in the Medical
Council of India Regulations.”, shall be deleted.
4. Clause 3 sub-clause 4 under the heading “Qualification Criteria” in Part – II “Scheme for permission of the
Central Government to increase the admission capacity in any course of study or training (including Post
Graduate course of study or training) in the existing Medical Colleges/Institutions.” i.e. “That the medical
college/institution has a feasible and time bound programme to provide additional equipment and infrastructural
facilities like the number of staff, space, funds, equipment and teaching beds etc, for increased numbers as laid
down in the Medical Council of India Regulations.”, shall be deleted.
