This notification, S.O. 987(E), issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on March 2, 2020, amends the Third Schedule of the Carriage by Air Act, 1972 (69 of 1972). Effective from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, the amendment revises the limits of liability as follows:

* In subrule 2, the amount "one thousand one hundred and thirty one" is replaced with "one thousand two hundred eightyeight".
* In subrule 3, the word "nineteen" is replaced with "twentytwo".
The notification is issued in exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (6) of section 4A of the Carriage by Air Act, 1972 and pursuant to rule 24 of Chapter III of the Third Schedule to the said Act, and takes into consideration revisions made by the depositary. The previous revision to these liability limits was made via notification S.O. 2159 dated June 16, 2016.

S.O. 987(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (6) of section 4A of the Carriage by
Air Act, 1972 (69 of 1972) and pursuant to rule 24 of Chapter III of the Third Schedule to the said Act, the
Central Government, having regard to the provisions of the said Act, and considering it necessary or expedient
to give effect to the limits of liability as revised by the depositary, hereby directs that with effect from the date
of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette, the provisions of the Third Schedule of the said Act
shall stand amended as follows, namely: —
1. In rule 21, in sub-rule (1), for the words “one lakh thirteen thousand one hundred”, the words “one lakh
twenty-eight thousand eight hundred twenty-one” shall be substituted;
2. In rule 22, —
(a) in sub-rule (1), for the words “four thousand six hundred and ninety four”, the words “five
thousand three hundred forty-six” shall be substituted;
(b) in sub-rule (2), for the words “one thousand one hundred and thirty one”, the words “one thousand
two hundred eighty-eight” shall be substituted; and
(c) in sub-rule (3), for the word “nineteen”, the words “twenty-two” shall be substituted.
