Parliament Question: Admission in Medical Colleges

GOVERNMENTOFINDIA MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE DEPARTMENTOFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE LOK SABHA UNSTARREDQUESTION NO. 1123 TOBE ANSWERED ON24THJULY,2026 ADMISSION INMEDICALCOLLEGES 1123.SHRIAGASYEDRUHULLAH MEHDI: Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate: (a)the totalnumberof Indian students who tookadmission inmedicalcollegestoPakistan before the issuance of the National Medical Commission advisory dated 28 April, 2022 and whose cases are pendingfor security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs; (b) the details of the average and maximum time taken by the Government for processing such security clearances; (c)whether the Government hasprescribed anytimelinefor disposal of these applicationsandif not,the reasons therefor; and (d) the steps takenby the Government toensure thatstudents who were admittedprior tothe policy change are not deprived of the opportunity to appear in the licensing examination solely onaccountof the prolongedpendency of security verification? ANSWER THE MINISTER OFHEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE (SHRIJAGATPRAKASH NADDA) (a) to (d): The information regarding admission of Indian Students in medical colleges to Pakistan prior to the issuance of National Medical Commission (NMC) advisory dated 28th April, 2022 is not maintained by NMC. However, NMC seeks security clearance from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in respect of such students who were admitted in medical collegesinPakistan prior to13.04.2022,from time totime. As informed by the MHA, the security clearance is issued based on inputs received from the security agencies. Subsequently, the NMC, upon receipt of the security clearance from the MHA, processes the applicationsexpeditiously for issue of EligibilityCertificate (EC). *****
