AIR CONNECTIVITY UNDER UDAN SCHEME

Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government proposes to include Jamui district in the next phase
of the Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether any survey has been conducted to assess the potential for air
connectivity in Jamui and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether it is true that providing air connectivity in a backward and naxal-
affected district like Jamui would boost regional development and investment and
if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether any proposal is under consideration for the development of an airstrip
or construction of a new airport in Jamui and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the steps being taken to bring Jamui on the UDAN map along with the expected
timeline therefor?

REGARDING AIR CONNECTIVITY UNDER UDAN SCHEME ASKED BY Shri
ARUN BHARTI.
(a) to (e): Regional Connectivity Scheme - Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (RCSUDAN)
is a demand-driven ongoing scheme where periodic bidding rounds are conducted to
connect unserved and underserved airstrips in the country. Interested airlines submit
their proposals based on demand assessment. Revival / up-gradation of unserved and
underserved airports is undertaken upon its identification through valid bid and
award to the Selected Airline Operator (SAO).
The State Government of Bihar has not indicated the existence of any airstrip in
Jamui district for inclusion under the UDAN Scheme. Accordingly, no airstrip in
Jamui is included in the tentative list of unserved airstrips/airports under UDAN.
The Government of India has formulated the Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008
for the development of new airports. Under the Policy, any airport developer-
including State Governments- must identify a suitable site, conduct a prefeasibility
study, and submit a proposal to the Central
Government for 'Site Clearance', followed by consideration for 'In-Principle'
approval.
No such proposal as per the Greenfield Airports Policy of MoCA for the
development of a new airport at Jamui district of Bihar has been received by this
Ministry or the Airports Authority of India, from the State Government of Bihar.
