AIR INDIA AIRCRAFT CRASH IN 2025
4014. SHRI SHAKTISINH GOHIL
Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:-
(a) the number of medical students and common people died at the site in Ahmedabad where
an Air India aircraft crashed in 2025;
(b) the number of medical students and common people injured;
(c) the amount of compensation provided so far to the family of the deceased medical
students and common people; and
(d) the amount of compensation provided to the medical students and common people who
sustained casualties?
ANSWER
Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar
Mohol)
(a) & (b): A total of 19 individuals on the ground lost their lives and a total of 81 individuals
on the ground sustained injuries at the accident site in Ahmedabad on 12 June 2025.
(c) & (d): Air India has so far offered interim compensation of INR 25 lakhs and an ex-gratia
payment of INR one crore in respect of each deceased individual from the AI-171 Memorial
and Welfare Trust, in respect of each deceased individual to the families of individuals who
lost their lives in the accident.
Air India has paid compensation upto INR 25 lakhs to individuals based on the nature and
degree of injuries sustained and long-term prognosis.
Payment of compensation to the passengers or next of kin in case of death or bodily injury to
the passenger, caused by air accident/incident, is governed by the provisions of the Montreal
Convention, 1999 as incorporated in the Carriage by Air Act, 1972.
