UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. : 4007
TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 30th March 2026
AIRPORT INFRASTRUCTURE AND EXPANSION DELAYS
4007. SHRI MANAS RANJAN MANGARAJ
Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:-
(a) whether several ongoing airport expansion projects are running behind schedule;
(b) if so, the reasons for the delay;
(c) the revised timelines for completion of each project; and
(d) steps taken to ensure timely completion without cost escalation?
ANSWER
Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar
Mohol)
(a) to (d): The airport expansion projects sometimes face delays due to factors such as land
acquisition challenges, pending statutory and environmental clearances, financial closure by
developers and unforeseen site-specific issues including adverse weather, waterlogging etc.
Revised timelines for completion are determined on a case-to-case basis, depending upon the
resolution of constraints and the progress of the respective projects.
To address delays in infrastructure projects, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports
Authority of India (AAI) conduct regular project review meetings at headquarters and project
sites in coordination with project in-charges and executing agencies.
