RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 380 FOR REPLY ON 30.03.2026
REGARDING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMMES IN AIRPORT GROUND HANDLING
AND AIR TRAFFIC SERVICES ASKED BY SMT SULATA DEO
(a) and (b): Apprenticeship and skill development in airport ground handling and related
operational areas are undertaken by Ground Handling Agencies (GHAs) as part of their
operational requirements. GHAs recruit personnel and impart necessary training, including
structured classroom training, on-the-job training and periodic refresher programmes.
Further, skilling initiatives encompass a wide range of areas such as passenger handling,
baggage management, ramp operations, safety procedures, emergency response, customer
service and operation of specialised equipment. These programmes are aligned with broader
Government policies on skill development and are implemented from time to time in
accordance with sectoral requirements.
The training and capacity building activities are also undertaken in collaboration with
airlines, training institutes and other service providers associated with airport operations.
Such apprenticeship and training activities are conducted across the country, including in the
State of Odisha, based on operational requirements.
