Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE be pleased to state :
(a) the total area of agricultural land insured under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana
(PMFBY) as of December, 2025;
(b) the total number of claims settled under the Scheme as of December, 2025; and
(c) whether any hike has been carried out in the categories of local risks or local calamities
under the Scheme, if so, the details thereof?

SETTLED UNDER PMFBY
(a) to (c) : The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), introduced in the country
from Kharif 2016 season, provides comprehensive risk insurance against crop damage due to
non-preventable natural risks from pre-sowing to post-harvest for the crops/areas notified by
the concerned State Government.
Further, the review/revisions / improvements in the crop insurance schemes is a continuous
process and decision on suggestion/ representations/ recommendations of the
stakeholders/studies are taken from time to time. Based on the experience gained, views of
various stakeholders, to ensure better transparency, accountability, timely payment of claims to
the farmers and to make the scheme more farmer friendly, Government has periodically revised
the Operational Guidelines of the PMFBY comprehensively in 2018, 2020 and 2023.
As on 31.12.2025, cumulatively from 2016-17 to 2024-25, total area of 5002 lakh ha.
has been insured and claims of Rs. 1,92,477 crore have been paid to 2323 lakh farmer
applications under the scheme.
