3767. SHRI BHUBANESWAR KALITA:
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:-
(a) how the new four-lane highway (Package-II) between Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland will improve connectivity between these two districts;
(b) the details of other major commercial centres in the State;
(c) the expected completion date for this stretch and the standards agreed upon; and
(d) the measures which are being implemented to ensure that the project meets quality cost effectiveness and sustainability standards? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI)
(a) The Dimapur–Kohima section of NH-29 is a key corridor connecting Nagaland with Manipur and providing faster access to the State capital. The Government has undertaken its four-laning of this
section in three civil work packages totalling 42.84 km, including Package II of 13.71 km, which is completed and under Defect Liability Period. This package along with package I (14.92 km), which is substantially completed with minor repair / rectification works being undertaken through Performance Based Maintenance Contracts (PBMC) & Package-III (14.21 km; under construction), once completed will significantly reduce the travel time between Dimapur and Kohima and enhanced infrastructure and economic development in the region.
(b) Major commercial centres include Dimapur and Kohima. These are important economic nodes for trade and business in Nagaland.
(c) Dimapur-Kohima Road (Pkg-II) was completed on 10.06.2023 and is currently under Defect Liability Period (DLP).
(d) Indian Road Congress (IRC) specifications and guidelines are followed by the Contractors to ensure that the project meets quality cost effectiveness and sustainability standards. *****
