Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government is launching new projects for the expansion and modernization of
National Highways in the country;
(b) the number of National Highway Projects currently under construction in Rajasthan and the
current status of the approved/proposed Bharatmala projects in Rajasthan including the
sanctioned/proposed stretch along with starting and ending points, the details thereof;
(c) whether Government is considering the expansion of the expressway network in the State;
and
(d) the total amount sanctioned so far for said projects?

RATHORE REGARDING BHARATMALA PARIYOJANA
(a) Development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs), including capacity
augmentation and modernization of NHs, is a continuous process. The Government has inter-alia
decided to focus on development of Access controlled National High Speed Corridors (HSCs) /
Expressways for improving the logistics efficiency of the country. Government has also focused
on the development of ring road / bypasses of cities with population of more than One Lakh with
priority on those cities which have population of more than 5 lakh. In addition, development of
coastal roads within 50km from the coast, connectivity of ports as per the prioritization of
Ministry of Shipping, Ports and Waterways and connectivity to Industrial nodes as per the
priority of National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) are also taken up for
development. The above developments will enhance connectivity, reduce logistics costs and
improve freight efficiency, which will act as driver to economic growth.
Government has approved NHs projects in about 5,800 km length costing about ₹1.75
Lakh Crore in the country during the current Financial Year 2025-26. At present, 1,244 NHs
projects in about 27,300 km length costing about ₹7.60 Lakh Crore are under construction in the
country.
The Government has also taken up Region-wise implementation of Advanced Traffic
Management System (ATMS) for National roll out in Four lane and above NHs in phased
manner, leading to modernization of NHs. ATMS has provisions for various electronic
enforcement devices, including AI-based Video Incident Detection and Enforcement Systems
(VIDES), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ)
cameras and surveillance cameras, for surveillance of the highway stretches, which help in
speedy identification of incidents (including traffic violations) on the highway stretches and
effectively monitor the highways, thereby improving incident response time and road safety.
(b) At present, 36 NHs projects in about 772 km length costing about ₹13,011 Crore are
under construction in the State of Rajasthan.
NHs Projects in 2,360 km length costing about ₹45,041 Crore in the State of Rajasthan
have been awarded under Bharatmala Pariyojana, out of which 2,258 km has been constructed.Approval of projects under Bharatmala Pariyojana has been discontinued since
November, 2023. However, new projects for development of NHs are taken up on case-to-case
basis under National Highway (Original) Works based on the traffic density, connectivity
requirement, condition of the road and synergy with PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan
(NMP). Government has approved 18 NHs projects in about 514 km length costing about ₹9,104
Crore in the State of Rajasthan during the current Financial Year 2025-26. This inter-alia
includes development of critical sections like Four Laning of Jhunjhunu – Chirawa – Singhana –
Pacheri section of NH-11, Four Laning of Nagaur – Netra section including Nagaur Bypass,
Jodhpur Elevated Road & Four Laning of Suratgarh – Sriganganagar Section.
(c) and (d) Government has taken up development of Six National HSCs / Expressways
(Amritsar – Bhatinda – Jamnagar, Delhi – Vadodara section of Delhi – Mumbai Expressway,
Jaipur Ring Road, Jodhpur Ring Road, Paniyala – Barodameo and Udaipur Bypass) in about
1,310 km length costing about ₹43,398 Crore in the State of Rajasthan, out of which 1,219 km
length has been constructed, including 1,176 km of operationalized length.
