DR. RAJEEVBHARADWAJ: Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILYWELFARE be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has received complaints/reports regarding an increase in respiratory diseases in the districts of Kangra and Chamba in Himachal Pradesh; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) whether cases of cancer have also increased in the said districts due to the increased consumption of tobacco and alcohol; and (d) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV) (a) to (d) Health being a State subject, the primary responsibility of providing healthcare services is that of the State Governments. However, to mitigate the challenges posed by Non- Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) provides technical and financial support to States and Union Territories across the country. The state Government of Himachal Pradesh has informed that no specific data is maintained to indicate an increase in respiratory diseases and cancer cases in Kangra and Chamba district. Cancer is a multifactorial disease, with tobacco and alcohol consumption recognized as significant risk factors for several types of cancer. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – National Cancer Registry Programme, the estimated incidence of cancer cases in the State of Himachal Pradesh, the estimated number of cancer cases (all sites, both sexes) are 7,959 in 2023 to 8,001 in 2024 and further to 8,041 in 2025. *****
