Parliament Question: Cases of water-borne disease in the country

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 455 TO BE ANSWERED ON 03.02.2026 CASES OF WATER-BORNE DISEASE IN THE COUNTRY 455 SHRI TIRUCHI SIVA: Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:- (a) the details of number of cases of water-borne diseases across the country in the last five years, State-wise; (b) the details of mortality rate and Disability-Adjusted Life Year (DALY) attributed to unsafe water, unsafe sanitation and lack of hygiene; (c) the steps being taken to increase awareness of water-borne diseases, especially among rural population; and (d) the details of steps being taken to increase awareness about water purification methods among people to reduce incidences of water-borne disease ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV) (a) & (b): State-wise details of cases of water-borne diseases (Acute Diarrhoeal Diseases, Cholera, Leptospirosis, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis E and Typhoid) as reported by States/UTs on Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme - Integrated Health Information Platform (IDSP- IHIP) portal during the last five years (2021–2025) are at Annexure I to V. (c) & (d): Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has issued a comprehensive 'Public Health Guidelines for Flood Events' which provides details on common public health effects due to floods, disease surveillance during and after flood with particular focus on water and food borne diseases; vector- borne diseases, and water, sanitation issues etc and the link for the guideline is as below https://www.ncdc.mohfw.gov.in/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PUBLIC-HEALTH- GUIDELINES-FOR-FLOOD-EVENT.pdf Further, awareness on prevention of water-borne diseases and safe water practices is promoted through community engagement via Village Water and Sanitation Committees/Pani Samitis, regular water quality testing, sensitization workshops, public awareness campaigns on hygiene and sanitation,
