Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) the number of scholarships awarded to students from Tamil Nadu under various Central
Government scholarship schemes during the last five years, under-graduate and post-graduate
levels, category-wise;
(b) the funds allocated and disbursed to beneficiaries during the said period;
(c) whether the Government maintains data on the total number of students benefitted from
the said schemes across the country, if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether any measures has been taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to increase
awareness and accessibility of Central scholarship schemes among students from rural and
economically weaker backgrounds in Tamil Nadu, if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): Education is in the concurrent list and both the central Government and State
Governments work together for improvement of education. The Central Government is
implementing various scholarship schemes for providing financial assistance to all categories
of students across the country including state of Tamil Nadu, subject to extant scheme
guidelines.
Based on information received from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,
Ministry of Tribal affairs, Department of Science and Technology, University Grants
Commission and All India Council of Technical Education, the number of scholarships
awarded to students of Tamil Nadu under various Central Government scholarship schemes,category-wise, level-wise during the last five years and the funds allocated and disbursed to beneficiaries may be accessed at https://www.education.gov.in/parl_ques.
In 2024-25, about 95 lakh scholarships have been disbursed to the students for pursuing post-matric and higher education. This includes about 27 lakh scholarships for Other Backward
Classes (OBC), Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) and Denotified Tribes (DNT) students; about 48 lakh scholarships for Scheduled Castes (SC) students; and about 17 lakh scholarships for Scheduled
Tribes (ST) students. The scheme-wise details may be accessed at https://www.education.gov.in/parl_ques.
To spread awareness among the students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds, information regarding the scholarship is disseminated through print and social media among the
