Parliament Question: Charges of airfares

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. : 978 TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 9th February 2026 CHARGES OF AIRFARES 978. DR. JOHN BRITTAS Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:- (a) aggregate domestic airfare revenue realised and the total number of domestic passengers carried by all airline operators in December, 2024 and in December, 2025; (b) total amount of airfares charged at elevated levels by airline operators during the recent IndiGo disruption, operator-wise details thereof; (c) details and total amount of travel vouchers and compensation provided to passengers by various airlines; (d) whether any actions were taken to refund the inflated airfares charged by airlines in December 2025, if so, the details thereof; and (e) the amount of compensation directed to be paid by IndiGo and other operators and the amount actually paid so far? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol) (a): The financial performance of scheduled Indian airline operators for the last two financial years (F.Y. 2023-24 & 2024-25) is placed at Annexure. The total number of domestic passengers carried by all airline operators during December, 2024 and December, 2025 is as under: Month Domestic Passengers Carried December, 2024 1,49,26,352 December, 2025 (provisional) 1,43,06,483 (b) In a deregulated aviation market, airfares are neither fixed nor regulated by the Government and are determined by airlines based on demand-supply dynamics and other commercial considerations.
