SHRI MOHIBBULLAH: SHRI BASTIPATI NAGARAJU: SHRI B K PARTHASARATHI: Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state: (a) the details regarding the number of Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for sports currently established across the country, State/UT- wise, including in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh; (b) the details regarding the number and types of sports being covered under the said Centres; (c) whether the Government has any plans to establish any new Centres of Excellence for sports in State of Uttar Pradesh; (d) if so, the details thereof, including the proposed location, expected timeline, and the total budget allocated and released so far and if not, the reasons therefor; (e) whether the Government plans to include additional sports disciplines such as badminton, tennis and chess under the ambit of existing or upcoming Centres; and (f) if so, the details thereof and the criteria being followed for inclusion of new sports disciplines under such centres? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS[DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA] (a) The State-wise detail of National Centres of Excellence (NCoEs) established across the country including in the State of Uttar Pradesh are provided at Annexure-I. At present, there is no NCoE operational in the State of Andhra Pradesh. (b) The following 24 Sports disciplines are being covered under the NCoEs operational in the country : SN Discipline(s) 1 Archery 2 Athletics 3 Badminton 4 Boxing 5 Cycling 6 Fencing 7 Football 8 Gymnastics 9 Handball 10 Hockey 11 Judo 12 Kabaddi 13 Kayaking & Canoeing 14 Kho-Kho 15 Powerlifting-Para 16 Rowing 17 Shooting 18 Swimming 19 Table Tennis 20 Taekwondo21 Volleyball 22 Weightlifting 23 Wrestling 24 Wushu The NCOE - wise detailed break up of the sport disciplines is provided at Annexure - II. (c) & (d) One NCoE has been approved for Sigra, Varanasi. There is no plan to establish any new NCoE in the State of Uttar Pradesh as SAI has undertaken an exercise of restructuring its Sports Promotional Schemes to ensure more focused and effective development of athletes. Given the existing sports infrastructure and financial considerations, the emphasis is currently on strengthening the capabilities of the existing centres to drive excellence in sports. (e) & (f) Training is already being imparted in Badminton discipline at some NCoEs.
